Borderline Personality Disorder or BPD is the personality disorder function that happened in long term. This disorder is dramatic, impulse the control disorder, emotional function and the narcissistic personality disorder. The form of borderline personality disorder is the unstable of the mood, the way of thinking in “black and white” side, the unstable personality in maintaining the interpersonal relationship, self-image, emotion, and unstable behavior. In some cases, this disorder can cause loss of identity, the emotional self-disorder, loss of focus that actually can impact the social life. There are some factors that can cause BPD. The biggest factors caused by the trauma experience during the childhood, it can be caused of sexual violence, parents’ denial, and many more. More than 70% individual that diagnosed with BPD has the trauma experience in harassment and sexual abuse in childhood. How to deal with this disorder? Before dealing with borderline personality disorder it is better to know the causes how this disorder can be happened to a person.

Violence during the childhood, rejection, and separately with the birth parents

Many studies showed that the connection of the child abuse especially the sexual harassment will grow the development of the personality of the children, and it can cause BPD. A child who has BPD had the previous experiment in verbal abuse, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse during the childhood. The female children who are separated to the mother and adopted with the other parents have the higher risk in sexual abuse than male children. This factor will create the personality disorder in the next phase.

Development factor

Trauma during the childhood is not the only cause of the borderline personality disorder. Some researchers also showed that the BPD may appear because of the failure of the tasks development in childhood. The failure in recognizing and differentiate the child with the other person that subsequently developed to the other form of psychosis to the children. The parents’ education played the important role in this part. The negative interaction between parents and child, lack of empathy, and great criticism are showed by the children rather than pride and award.

Genetic factor

The treatment that associates with BPD gives the impact that can influence the personality of the children. Genetic and serotonin are suspected give the influence about this disorder.

Neurotransmitter function

The neurotransmitter that is not balance such as the norepinephrine danacetylcholine and serotonin that can affect the mood and emotion has the function as the mood stabilizer. It can influence the behavior of the people who have BPD in responding. If the serotonin is not balance in the prefrontal cortex, the impulsive behavior and the aggressiveness may happen to the BPD individual.

Actually, what is happening to the people who have borderline personality disorder? Basically, this personality disorder is concerning the emotion disorder. The hardest problem in people with BPD is in the emotion. People with BPD will experience the flood of emotion that may appear suddenly. Sometimes, they will to repress their emotions and in the same time the emotion will go. The bored feeling will appear. People with BPD spent the whole time with problem with anger, aggressive behavior, violence, depressive mood, emotion disorder and many more. In this case, people with BPD will experience the changes of mood. They are often angry, and the angry can’t be controlled. They also have behavior to injure them such as slicing their body parts, or attempt to commit suicide. Moreover, there is the great potential in damaging themselves such as consuming drug, alcohol, gambling, eating disorder, involve in free sexual behavior.

People who are dealing with borderline personality disorder experience the problem related to the self-identity. They will experience the difficulty in recognizing their feeling and thought. They experience the interference in real identity, self-image, sexual orientation, the carrier option, and relationship with friends and relatives. Besides, they feel loneliness and boredom during the life. In social life, people with BPD have a strong feeling in loving or hating the other and sensitive feeling through the rejection and criticism. They are also difficult to trust the other. Treatment is the best way in dealing with borderline personality disorder.

Schema therapy

Schema therapy is one of the therapies in dealing with borderline personality disorder. This therapy is using the approach that based on the cognitive behavior and gestalt. The focus in this therapy is in the emotional aspect, the personality and the reaction toward the environment. The therapist will focus on mentoring and parenting in the daily life of the client and the experience during the childhood.

Dialect and behavior therapy

This therapy was firstly introduced in 1990s by Marsha Linehad for people with dialect behavior disorder. And then this therapy applied in people with BPD based on the theory of the biosocial in stressing the private function in controlling the emotion. This therapy focuses on the negotiation between the therapist and the client as well. And then they are going to discuss about the emotion, rational, changing. And the target of this therapy is the client can make decision, concentrate, have a good interpersonal relationship and face the stress feeling and the emotion well.

Transference focused physiotherapy

Transference focused physiotherapy is a kind of psychoanalysis therapy that developed by Otto Kernberg. The transference focused physiotherapy plays the active role together with the client during the treatment. In this case, the therapist will dig and explore the friendship aspects based on the client’s need.

Therapy cognitive behavior

This kind of therapy is widely used around the world in personality disorder. But based on several researches, this therapy is not really effective in dealing with borderline personality disorder, because the interpersonal relationship is difficult to develop.

Family therapy

The family therapy is very effective in reducing the stress and conflict that can exacerbate the mental condition of people with BPD. The practice in family therapy toward the people with BPD is training the family member of the client to improve the communication and the solving problems together. And also support the people with BPD.
