Effects of Consuming Excessive Alcohol to Your Health
Alcohol is widely consuming, not only by those who just take it for pleasure but also those who already included it in their daily habits. People might think that consuming alcohol is fine so that they neglect about the long term effect of it to their health. Taking an alcohol for few times perhaps will not cause anything but if you take in in huge amount than wide variety of diseases are waiting to attack your body. Consuming to much alcohol can harm our body, but we are not fully aware about this matter. Perhaps, by knowing about health problems caused by excessive alcohol consumption you will increase awareness about its peril.
What categorized as excessive consumption
It already becomes a fact that too much alcohol intake in long period of time causes thousands of death as well as millions of shortening lives. However, at first we should know how much amount of alcohol intake which is considered as excessive. Basically, for the majority of healthy adults, drinking over than normal amount than of limitation of a day or a week can be said as heavy or excessive drinker. The limitation of alcohol intake for men and women is different. What are defined as excessive drinker in men are those who five or more drinks in a day or fifteen or more within a week. Meanwhile, in women, an excessive drinker is her who consumes four or more in a day or eight or more during a week. The category of excessive drinker is also given to underage drinker and women during pregnancy who take any amount of alcohol. One among four people which consume any amount of alcohol more than the limitation already gets some health disorders as the effects. The remaining people increase higher risk of getting similar things or other problem. However, the risk which can be gotten varies from one person to another. Those who drinking less than the limitation also have chance to get the problems, especially if they drink too fast.
Health problems associated with excessive drinking
No matter how many amount of alcohol intake you get, it will affect your body because it is absorbed into bloodstream and transferred throughout all the body parts. Although its absorption can be reduced by consuming high fat diet but when it is already processed in the body it will result on changes both in physical and emotional which is really hazardous to the body, particularly if it is consumed in long term. These are several health problems caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
Excretory becomes one of the body systems that will be affected with the alcohol consumption. Excretory system plays important role in processing and eradicating waste products from the body including alcohol. One of the processes occur in this system is that pancreas produces an enzyme which blend with bile made in gallbladder. This blend is beneficial in food digestion. Besides, pancreas helps to maintain the level of insulin and glucose in the body. Too much alcohol intake can trigger the pancreas to secrete toxic substance that disrupts its appropriate function. When it is not quickly treated, it can create pancreas inflammation which is commonly known as pancreatitis. For long term, this condition can harm the pancreas. Meanwhile, the function of liver is to spilt apart toxic substances like alcohol. Although it helps to eliminate the toxin but if you consume excessive amount of alcohol can result in hepatitis that trigger the progression of jaundice. This condition is characterized with yellow colour in skin and eyes. It also can form inflammation in the liver and intend to cause bad scar on it which is renowned as cirrhosis. The formation of the scar actually can harm this body part. If liver cannot perform its function normally, the toxic will accumulate in the body. The risk of this liver disease in women is higher than men as women’s body incline to get more alcohol absorption and require longer time to process it. If both pancreas and liver fail to do their functions, it can increase a low blood sugar condition or popularly known as hypoglycaemia. This condition appears since pancreas produces lack of insulin that cannot be used to maintain the sugar level. Another effect to the liver is that it can cause cancer on it.
High amount of alcohol consumption can bring changes in behaviour as well. It is because alcohol is distributed to all parts of the body including the central nervous system. When this system is already affected by alcohol, it will make you difficult to talk and unclear speak. It also can disturb the coordination system. Due to this condition, it will be hard for people to maintain their balance and face difficulty in walking so that they might turn wobbly. It is not finished yet, since excessive drinking can affect your thinking ability. It is since it brings trouble to the impulse control and memory processing. In long period of time, heavy drinker might suffer from frontal brain lobes shrink. More severe health problems caused by excessive alcohol consumption that happens in brain called as dementia which refers to permanent harm of brain. Any damage that occurs in nervous system also can cause painful feeling, unresponsiveness, and strange sensation that often appear in feet and hands. Besides, those who get high alcohol intake also can suffer from vitamin B1 deficiency that leads to other health problems such as weaknesses and spontaneous eye movement. Those who consume excessive alcohol and already addicted will become dependent on it both physically and emotionally. Hence, if they do not drink it they will experience symptoms that commonly include nausea, anxiety, or tremors. Besides hard to control themselves, they may also undergo to confusion, seizure, or hallucination. If people already reach this state, it means that they are in bad alcohol addiction. So, if you want to get rid of this addiction, they usually need medical detoxification not only to help with the process of withdrawal but also the side effects which may appear after it.
