Suicidal cases are getting increased from time to time, however, there are signs of suicidal tendencies in young adults that you should know to avoid this case. Many factors can lead young adults to commit suicide including depression, self-doubt, confusion, high demand from parents for the success, relationship problems, financial problems, fear of growing into adults, parents divorce and many other factors. Young adults put the idea of suicide as a solution to overcome the problems above.

Depression does not just happen to adults, children but also to young adults may also suffer from depression. Fortunately, depression can be treated in some ways. A study shows that those who are at the age of 15 up to 24 years old have higher risk to commit suicide. Also, another data stated that a young adult who live in a less crowded place tend to commit suicide rather than those who live in a more crowded place.

There are as much as 5 percent of young adults are believed to have experienced depression. Children who experience stress, loss (either in term of people or goods), children who have anxiety disorders, children who are learning are all have higher risks to suffer from depressions. This illness tends to inherit in families. The reasons for young adults choosing to commit suicide, due to severe depression, are actually do not appear in a sudden.  Usually, they were previously diagnosed with signs of severe depressions that motivated them to commit suicide. Parents should be alert and cautious about some factors that lead to depression that may be happen on their children. Here are several signs of suicidal tendencies in young adults including:

Children and young adults are often got problems at school or home may suffer from depression. Since children and young adults may not show gloomy looks, the parents and teachers may not recognize that the children’s disruptive behavior is included as sign of depression. They tend to just show they are sad when the parents ask them. Thus, parents must be able to see and feel the difference in the behavior of their children than usual. Young adults are very vulnerable. The characteristics of emotion are unstable and was looking themselves often push them to desperate in seeking for recognition as well as attention. Unfortunately, often many parents or friends are less or do not understand it. That there are young adults get stigmatized as rebels. The views and negative responses of others who do not meet their expectations, making the young adults feel not acceptable and further may lead into depressed. When the young adults look gloomy, they will likely to isolate themselves and behave out of habit. Thus, parents should be sensitive and alert because such condition to commit suicides can also occur to their children.

Moreover, young adults who have close relationships with people who commit suicide have a greater tendency to do the same. Girls are more likely to commit suicide than young adult boys. This is generally because girls are more difficult to move on when getting into troubles and pressure than the young adult boys. Nevertheless, committed suicide for young adult boys might be more succeed than girls because they usually do so in extreme ways such as the use of firearms, sharp tools or even hang themselves. While girls prefer a more soft and indirect action like drinking poison pills or cut her veins.

An early diagnosis and treatment are very important for children who are depressed. Depression is a real illness that requires a professional help. A comprehensive treatment is often necessary, including therapy either for the patient or for the family.

A balanced emotional stability of young adults is not born-inherit, but more as the result of living process and education from the close people, including the family. The lack of good affection, the amount of physical and psychological pressure were accepted in daily life of young adults, too-tight controls from parents, high demand for excessive achievements, all are time to time will lead to the peak of explosion. A condition of poor affection from family and less emotional support will lead to a low self-esteem and higher the risk for them to self-blame among the young adults. Instead, a family with a warm and harmonious relationship with high affection and emotional support will give the young adults high self esteem as well as stable with confidence.

There are some things that parents or friends can do when they find signs of suicidal tendencies in young adults including :

  1. Invite the young adults to speak from their heart about the problems they face

  2. Be a good listener and supportive but do no give false hope like saying everything’s going to be alright.

  3. Do not ignore the signs of suicidal tendencies

  4. Do not refuse the proposed young adults conversations to discuss about their problems.

  5. Do not leave the young adults alone when they clearly indicate suicidal tendencies, such as preparing pills or other potential weapons

  6. Do not respond their problems with jokes or rejection.

  7. Ask professional helps from psychologists, psychiatrists or religious person to discuss and overcome the problems
