The Cause of Obesity in Childhood
Obesity is the accumulation of the fat under the skin that is redundant and then it is found throughout the body. Obesity is associated to overweight. But basically obesity has the particular characteristic. The researcher from University of Illinois in USA is contrast with the common belief about what causes childhood obesity.
Based on the study, the researchers focus on that the poor diet and lack of activity are not the main cause of obesity to the children. Bad diet and lack of activity are just the side effect that causes of the actual risks of the obesity factors. The researches wonder about what actually is the main cause of the unhealthy lifestyle such the bad diet or less activity in children? And as the fact, in America, the childhood obesity had reached the shocking level. The number of the children who obese increases two times in the last thirty years. And the surprisingly fact is the number of obesity in adults and teenagers increases threefold. And based on the study in America in 2010, there are more than third of adult and children experience obesity.
Based on the report by Medical Daily, there are several things that related each other about the obesity to the children. One of the factors is the reducing of the physical exercise or sport education at school due to the deal of the factor of the students’ safety. And now, the researchers from University of Illinois in USA have found the basic factors that hold the control in the other factor of obesity in children. The main factors have the great influence to the cause of the childhood obesity. The first factor is the poor quality of sleep. Or it can be seen that during the childhood, they are lack of sleeping. Stay alive makes the children eat to spend the time. Therefore, lack of sleeping hold what causes childhood obesity. And then the second and the third factors are related each other. The parents who are overweight will bring the great impact to the children, so the children will be overweight. Related to the parents, lack of parental supervision to the food that the children consumed is the reason. The last two main factors have the connection to the function in parenting. This study is preceded by the survey to more than 300 pairs of parents and also it is conducted to the parents who have children in age two years.
Poor eating habits
Children who don’t like consuming fruits, vegetables, and grains and prefer to consume fast food, sugary drink, and snack in package tend to be overweight because those food are high of fat, calories, and they have no nutrition inside at all. Therefore the role of parents is needed here. Parents must control every detail of the food that the children consume. The detail and regular supervision to the food can control the weight of the children so the children will not be overweight. Parents must change the poor diet into the healthy diet. Just limit the consumption of the junk food and increase the consumption of the vegetables, fruits, and more nutrition menus.
Childhood obesity may be passed down by the parents. Children who have obese parents or siblings are more potential to experience the same thing. But basically the genetic factor brings a little impact. Back to the parents, if the parents can give the good sample by eating the healthy food, then the children will follow the healthy life style. In contrast if the parents consume the unhealthy food as the result the parents will be overweight and it must be followed by the children. To deal with this factor, the parents itself and the children must the healthy diet by reducing the amount of calories and fat.
Lack of physical activities
Today, in modern era, most children spent the time in front of the computer, gadget, and television, so they will not move a lot. Therefore, parents play important role in this case. Parents must take and train the children to do many physical activities rather than playing games in the smartphone or watching television. Parents must take the children to play outside to make the children move more.
The main factors that triggered to the childhood obesity are not the fixed matters. In other word, the problem about the obesity in children can be prevented and overcome.
One of the researchers of the Illinois University said that the healthy child is the self-product of the parents. Actually, parents don’t need to force the children to reap cabbage, broccoli, lots or apples and much healthy food. They just need to give them the example. The little sample will make the great impact to the children and it is the broader approach to the children in order to have the healthy lifestyle.
The key of what causes childhood obesity is in the parents. Rather than making the hard choice to the children not to consumed candy and junk food, it is more effective to provide healthy food at home. Be more active by taking the children to do sports. By doing sports and physical activities, the children will be tired, and it gives the good impact to the quality in sleeping. Basically, parents and adult tend to watch TV or play game in spending the time. Therefore the children will do the same. Parents shouldn’t forbid the children to consume snacks because when they are forbidden, they are dong to devour the snacks when they have the opportunity. Balance is the key. It is ok to eat snacks but parents must provide vegetable, fruit, and vegetable snack at home. It will build the mindset of healthy life to the children. Psychologically, what the children eat is what the parents eat. If the parents have the healthy lifestyle, consume healthy food, the children will sea and try to apply the healthy life automatically. Furthermore, parents must concern and pay attention to everything that is done actually. As the result, the children see and children do.
